He purchased a farm near Rhinebeck village and cleared a runway before making makeshift hangars out of wood with his hands. On Saturday during an airshow, a World War I-era Fokker D.VIII started having mechanical issues. It is suspected that its engine caught fire, causing it to drop and collapse while in flight; its pilot, Brian Coughlin was later declared deceased at the scene.
